Learning the Language of the Birds ~ 28th-29th June 2014

Robin Singing

European Robin (Erithacus Rubecula)

Would you like to learn how to see the world through the eyes of the birds? Can you imagine knowing a Sparrowhawk is in the area before seeing it? Would you know if a Blackbird had given you a clue to the presence of nearby deer? Would you notice if the birds were giving away the location of a roosting Tawny Owl?

These are just a few of the possibilities when you begin to read the vocalisations and behaviour of the birds. On this weekend you will learn core routines that will take your basic understanding of bird language to a higher level, and expand your awareness even further. Learn how to interpret bird vocalisations, habits and behaviour and use this knowledge to read the landscape around you. Find out how a knowledge of the birds can give us clues to the presence of other species of animal, indicate what plants and other wildlife may be around us, and even changes in the weather.

See the world through the eyes of the birds, and access the power that a deep knowledge of place will bring. Take home a deeper understanding of yourself and the natural world. This weekend will give you the basic framework and tools necessary to appreciate and interpret the secret world of the birds.

All this within the setting of a beautiful woodland near Dartmoor, where we will share the philosophy that connecting people to people, people to themselves and people to Nature, is a vital tool to help create re-generative community in the places that we live.

Led by 2 experienced instructors, Ollie Hornbeam and Rick Lockwood, this Bird Language course perfectly complements the skills covered in the Nature Awareness and Tracking day courses, and the combination of the these courses gives you all you need to know to begin to explore and understand the natural world around you, whether that be a woodland, urban garden, or local park. Led by 2 experienced instructors, Ollie Hornbeam and Rick Lockwood.
